Department of General Surgery conducted CME programme on 14th June 2008, the theme was “Trends in Oncology” at Auditorium, S.S. Institute of Medical sciences and Research centre NH-4, Bypass Road ,Davangere – 577005. Inaugration was done by Dr.Kanteerava Balasaraswati, followed by talk on CT scan in evaluation of renal and retroperitoneal tumor in children by Dr. Ramakrishna Rao Baru, Histopathology of retroperitoneal tumors by Mrs R Rao Baru, Mangement of Head and Neck cancer by Dr. Srinath, Diagnosis workup & surgical management of colorectal cancer by Dr Mahesh, Chemotherapy in colorectal cancer by Dr Murali and Radiotherapy in colorectal cancer by Dr Tanveerpasha.
Theme: “Surgical Critical Care” on 25th July 2009 Saturday 9am to 4pm. Department of General Surgery S.S. Institute of Medical Sciences And Research Centre organized CME on surgical critical care on 25th July 2009. There was enthusiastic participation from staff and students of SSIMS&RC and JJMMC.
General practitioners and surgeons from Davangere and around attended the CME.
Chief Guest for inaugural function was Dr. S.M. Byadgi senior surgeon Davangere.
Welcome speech was given by Dr. Veerendra Swamy S.M. associate Professor Department of General Surgery.

Inauguration of CME was done by lighting the lamp by dignitaries on the dais.
Chief Guest Dr. S.M. Byadgi addressed the audience and stressed the need for educational programmes like CME, conference etc. He declared the CME open.

A CME and Workshop on E.R.C.P. was held on 28th May, 2011, organized by the Department of General Surgery at Auditorium SSIMS & RC, NH 4 bypass road, and JJMMC , Davanger-577005. Inaugration was done by Dr P Nagaraj, Principal SSIMS & RC , Welcome address was given by Dr P J Prabhakar, Prof & HOD Dept of General Surgery, Guest lectures was given by Dr Satya Prakash, Dr Narendra, Dr M G Prakash. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Veerendra Swamy.
This programme was well attended by faculty members, P.G. Students and UG students, interns of JJM Medical College and SSIMSRC, and by local Surgical Colleagues. It was very informative and educative. All had very good interactions about E.R.C.P. procedures.
A Workshop and CME conducted In “Basic Surgery Skills Course” on 20th April 2013, Saturday Organized by Department of General Surgery, SSIMS & RC, Davangere. Venue: Lecture hall – 4. Course faculty by: Dr. C.S Rajan, Professor & HOD, Department of Surgery and Medical Superintendent-St Martas Hospital. The following hands on course was done: suture and needle presentation, Instrumentation, Skin suturing, Knotting technique, Abdominal wall closure, Bowel anastomosis, Vascular anastomosis, Tendon repair.
This programme was well attended by faculty members, P.G. Students and UG students, interns of JJM Medical College and SSIMSRC, and by local Surgical Colleagues. It was very informative and educative. All had very good interactions about E.R.C.P. procedures.
A CME on “SYMPOSIA ON BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA” and Workshop & Live Demonstration “ TURP & Other Urology Cases” was conducted on 17TH August 2013, organized by the Davangere Surgical Society (ASI-KSC City Chapter), Department of General Surgery at Auditorium SSIMS & RC, NH 4 bypass road, Davangere-577005 and JJM Medical College, Davangere. Inaugration was done by Dr S M Byadgi followed by Symposium on “Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia” which was followed by Workshop & Live Telecast of : TURP, Pyeloplasty And RIRS.
A CME on “BREAST CANCER – AN UPDATE” was conducted on 12th October 2013, organized by the Davangere Surgical Society (ASI-KSC City Chapter), Department of General Surgery SSIMS&RC, and JJM Medical College, Davangere. The need of ACS (Acute Care Surgery) was born, out off discrepancy between the care delivered to trauma and non trauma emergencies patients. Unlike trauma care provide to patients with surgical disease of non traumatic cause often fragmented and inadequate. Surgical units with dedicated team work need to get trained in protocol based decision making and treatment, for better outcome. This CME was an opportunity to know about present management concepts of Acute Non Traumatic Surgically ill patients.
As Scheduled the program started with registration started at 8am, and some Spot Registration were allowed, that was followed by Breakfast. CME lecture were started in time with the emerging topic of interest for all General Surgeons, the session was made too much interactive with active involvement of Post Graduates from SSIMS and JJMMC.

In this era of minimal scars and limited access surgery, a continuous surgical education was held by the Department Of General Surgery SSIMS and RC on Basic Laparoscopic Skills and Hands on workshopon 7th and 8th of March 2020.
The Scientific feast included 4 lectures and poster presentations followed by hands on training workshop.
Followed by a hands on training session which took place in a modifiedmultiaxial volvo bus containing high end laparoscopic training simulatorsbyJohnson and Johnson.About 43 delegates were trained in different sessions of 2hr each spread across 2 days. The two days were put to good use by all the postgraduates.
Poster presentation competition by final year undergraduate students was indeed a marvellous showcase of hidden talent.
Dr Anantharaju G S and Dr Vikram S Bsuccessfully completed the 1St Advanced Emergency Abdominal Surgery Course held at K S Hegde Medical Academy Mangalore, from 30th January to 1st February 2020.
Dr L S Patil , Dr Basavarajappa M, Dr Sahana M P , Dr Ravishankar Y R and Dr Vivekanad D attended the ASI State conference held in bangalore 14th to 16th February 2020. Dr Sahana M P won the second prize in poster presentation.
