Dept of Pediatrics from SSIMS&RC, & JJMMC, BCHI &RC, IAP Davangere dist branch has conducted Asthma management training program Saturday 25th March at Lecture Hall No 1. The theme of the CME was “Asthma management training program.”

Dr.P.Nagaraj Principal SSIMS&RC, was the chief guest. Vote of thanks was given by Dr.N.K.Kalappnavar. The other chairpersons involved in the programme were Dr.Nirmala Kesaree, Dr.M.L.Kulkarni, The faculty speakers were: Dr.Suresh Babu, Prof JJMMC, Davangere, Dr.Nagabhshan, Dr.Subramanya.N.K. conducted the Asthma management training program for postgraduates.

2008 A paediatrics CME was held in association with JJMMC & IAP district branch on 19-04-2008. Dr.Nirmala Kesaree was the chief guests. Eminent faculty form JNMC Belgum (Dr.N.S.Mahanthsetti Prof & HOD Paediatrics & Dr.Roopa Bellad, Prof Paediatrics) Dr.M.L.Kulakarni Prof & HOD JJMMC, Dr.C.R.Banapurmath and Dr.Suresh babu Prof JJMMC, participated & delivered lectures. A total of 100 Paediatrics post graduates & practicing pediatricians participated.

RESPICON – 2008, XX Annual Conference of National IAP Respiratory Chapter was held from 21st to 23rd of Nov 2008. The conference theme “COMPREHENSIVE CARE FOR BETTER BREATHING” This was organized by National IAP Respiratory Chapter, Karnataka State Respiratory Chapter & IAP Davangere District Branch. It was hosted by Department of Paediatrics, SSIMS&RC, J.J.M. Medical College & Bapuji Child Health Institute & Research Center, DVG It was attended by 6 International & 37 national faculties. Among the international faculty 4were from UK, One from USA & the other from Maskat & National faculty came from all parts of the country. More than 5oo delegates had registred for the conference from all over the country & also from abroad [Sri Lanka, Bangaladesh, Maskat].. On the first day of conference 4 workshops were conducted simultaneously on ABG, Ventilation, Respiratory Tract Infection Management & advanced procedures like Beonchoscopy. Each workshop was attended by on an average 40 participants. It was inaugurated by Dr.Kanteerava Balasaraswathi [Dean, SSIM&RC] & chief guest being Dr.P.Nagaraj [Principal, SSIMS&RC] Workshop were followed by 2hours of faculty meeting where there was useful exchange of knowledge & views between National & International delegates & also possibility of exchange Programmes were discussed. Felicitation to Dr.Varinder Singh was done. On the second day of the conference scientific programme held from 9am to 5pm. Highlights of the programme was the talk Asthma devices & Drug delivery by Dr.ChristopherO’ Callaghan & chaired by V.D.Patil Same evening the inaugural function of the conference which was prsided by Sri S.Shivashankarappa, [Hon. Secretary, BEA] & Sri S.S.Mallikarjun, [Hon. Secretary, SSIMS&RC] was the Chief guest. Dr.H.Paramesh [Medical Director, Lakeside Medical Centre, Bangalore] was the Guest of Honour. On the same occasion release of Souvenir CD & CD of Respiratory Sounds was done which was followed by culture programme & Banquet Last day of the conference started at 8am with Free Paper & Dr.Keva Lahari Award Paper presentation. Many papers were presented & Dr.Whose presentation was on got the best scientific award. It was followed by Scientific Programme, highlight of which was talk on Symposium on Tuberculosis, Contraversies in Paediatrics Pulmonalogy, & controversies on use of Cough Syrups.. All Scientific Programmes were well appreciated & attended, with good speakers & audience interactions. The post conference feed back from both & Encouraging.

CME IN NEONATOLOGY Neo- 2009:

Dept of Pediatrics & Neonatology from SSIMS&RC, JJMMC, BCHI &RC, IAP Davangere dist branch & NNF Karnataka state chapter had conducted CME in Neonatology followed by 12th NNF Quiz in Neonatology on Saturday 1st Aug 2009 at SS Hospital Auditorium. The theme of the CME was “RECENT ADVANCES and HOT TOPICS IN NEONATOLOGY”. Dr.Kanteerava Balasaraswathi, Dean, SSIMS&RC was the chief guest, Dr.P.Nagaraj, Principal SSIMS&RC was also present. PEDICON 2012 Davangere “Comprehensive Child Care – Now or Never” 31st Karnataka state Annual Pediatric Conference 12th, 13th & 14th October 2012 Karnataka Pedicon 2012:

31st Karnataka state pediatric conference, KARNATAKA PEDICON 2012, was held in Davangere, at Bapuji Auditorium, JJM Medical College, and was organized by Departments of Pediatrics, JJM MC, SSIMS & RC, Bapuji CHI & RC in association with IAP Karnataka state Chapter, IAP Davangere District branch. The organizing team was guided and supported by Chief patrons Dr. S Shivashankarappa, Hon. Secratory, BEA and Sri. S. S.Mallikarjun, Chairman, SSIMS & RC, and by Dr Manjunath Alur, Principal, JJMMC, Dr P Nagaraj, Principal, SSIMS & RC, Dr Nirmala Kesaree, Director Bapuji CHI and RC and Heads of the Department of Pediatrics of JJM MC and SSIMS & RC, Davangere. Conference was attended by more than 700 practicing pediatricians, teaching staff and post graduate students all over the state and nearby states. The conference was preceded by pre-conference workshops on 12th Octobur. There were 7 workshops conducted on that day and were attended by more than 200 delegates most of them were postgraduate students and practicing pediatricians. The main conference was on 13th and 14th October 2012 and was attended by more than 700 delegates from all over state and south India. This conference was a grand success. All the delegates enjoyed the great academic feast and hospitality of Davangere.

CME IN NEONATOLOGY NEO-2013 Dept of Pediatrics & Neonatology from SSIMS & RC, JJMMC:

J.J.M.M.C, B.C.H.I & R.C, IAP DAVANGERE District branch & NNF Karnataka state branch had conducted CME Neonatology on 20/7/13 under the theme of RECENT ADVANCES & HOT TOPICS IN NEONATOLOGY. Distinguished speakers & experienced neonatologists from different superspeciality hospital across state shared their knowledge and experience on topics like new newborn recitation guidelines, latepreterms, ventilator problems, neurosonogram, enteral feeding & surgical issues related TEF. The aim of this programme was to enrich the knowledge of neonatology among participants & delegates and to help the community at large & also in propagating the knowledge to the students of medicine. CME programme was started with inauguration by lighting the lamp by dignitaries on the dias. Dr N.K.Kalappanavar introduced all the guest speakers and other dignitaries Dr P.S.Sureshbabu Prof of Pediatrics J.J.M.M.C DVG, Dr S.S Prakash Prof of paediatrics, J.J.M.M.C & President IAP Davangere dist branch and Dr Madhupujar Assoc Prof of paediatrics, J.J.M.M.C & Secretary DVG district branch.

Dr Venkatesh H A neonatologist, Manipal Hospital Blore and Secretary of N.N.F State chapter gave presidential address inauguration programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr B.S Prasad, he thanked everyone who were directly or indirectly responsible for the programme including our chief patrons Dr Shamnur Shivashankarappa, Hon Secretary BEA & Sri Mallikarjuna, Chairman, S.S.I.M.S & R.C Dr P.Nagraj, Principal for his consistent support which made this event successful.

Dr.Nirmala Kesaree Oration and 5th Annual CME: 2015:

Dr.Nirmala Kesaree Oration and 5th Annual CME of Davangere District Branch was conducted on 13th June 2015, was organized by Dept of Pediatrics, SSIMS&RC in collaboration with Dept of Paediatrics, JJMMC & IAP Davangere Dist. Branch.

CME was Inaugurated by Dr.S.S. Kamath, President Central IAP, Dr.Santhosh Soans President IAP Karnataka, and Dr.B.S.Prasad Principal SSIMS&RC. At the same time Journal of Paediatric Pulmonology and critical care was released by Dr. S.S. Kamath which was edited by Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar, Medical Director Prof & HOD, Dept of Paediatrics, SSIMS&RC, The moment was great milestone in the Dept of Paediatrics. CME was attended by Paediatricians, Post graduates & General Practitioners of Davangere District.

KAR – RESPICON, 23rd , 24th & 25th June 2017, SSIMS&RC, DVG:

Dept of Paediatrics, SSIMS & RC in association with JJMMC and IAP Davangere district branches organized the Kar-Respicon 2017 and 7th annual CME of IAP Davangere district branch on 23rd, 24th and 25th June 2017. This annual conference of IAP State respiratory chapter was held at S.S institute of medical sciences & research centre.

The 3 day educational activity included one day CME workshop on “Live bronchoscopy and Hands on training in Intubation” and “ABG Workshop” on 23rd June 2017 followed by two days Conference on basic and advanced pediatric pulmonary care on 24th and 25th June 2017.

The preconference workshop was inaugurated by renowned veteran pediatrician and academician par excellence Dr Suresh Babu along with organizing chairman and Medical director of SSIMS & RC Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar and Principal of SSIMS & RC Dr.B.S.Prasad. The workshop was attended by about 35 delegates including faculties, practitioners and postgraduate trainees. Live bronchoscopy demonstration was done by pioneers in the field Dr D.Vijayashekaran and Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar along with Dr.Manjunath Sarthi. Delegate also received invaluable hands on training in bronchoscopy equipment and procedure using mannequin and lung model with detailed segmental anatomy. The President for the conference held on 24th and 25th June 2017 was IAP president elect Dr.Santosh Soans. Other dignitaries at inaugural function included Dr.H.Paramesh, Dr.Suresh Babu, Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar, Dr.B.S.Prasad and Dr.Latha.G.S. Medical director of SSIMS & RC Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar delivered the welcome speech and Principal of SSIMS & RC Dr.B.S.Prasad Chief guest of the function addressed the gathering on recent changes in Pulmonology.

The knowledge sharing conference constituted of numerous guest lectures on various aspects of pediatric pulmonary medicine. Dr.Nirmala Kesaree Oration on ”Journey from Bedside ‐Towards Community” was delivered by Dr.Nagabushana and Dr.H.Parmaesh Oration Lecture on “Asthma Management beyond emergency room” was presented by IAP president elect Dr.Santosh Soans. Highlight of the event was “Interesting Case Presentation by Practicing Pediatricians” which was well appreciated by all dignitaries and delegates. The gala banquet on the night of 24th June was a major draw with young kids enthralling audience with astounding dance performance.

Dr.N.K.Kalappanavar and Dr.Latha.G.S. concluded the event with special vote of thanks. To sum up, KAR-Respicon 2017 was a resounding success and very well attended by 225 delegates from different parts of the country.

KARPEDICON-2019:

38th Annual Conference of IAP-KSB, 33th South Zone PEDICON

This was organized by IAP Karnataka state branch, and IAP Davangere district branch. It was hosted by department of Pediatrics, SSIMS&RC, JJM Medical College & Bapuji child health institute, it was attended by around 1,200 delegates from all around the country and from abroad. On the first day of conference 6 workshops were conducted simultaneously on basic NRP, advance NRP, IYCF, Antimicrobial Stewardship, ABG electrolytes and basic ventilation workshop. Each work shop was attended by average of 40 Participants, workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Srinath Mugali National IAP Vice-President and this was followed by workshop faculty dinner on the same day. On second, third and fourth day of conference scientific Programs were conducted from 8pm to 5pm. Highlights of the programs are.

1. Lecture on patient Safety by Dr.Umesh Prabhu , (International faculty chief recruiting advicer NHS UK)

2. Oration on challenges in management of childhood tuberculosis by Dr.V.D.Patil (Registrar KLE University).

3. Key note address by Dr.Diganth Shastri (President 2019 IAP) on Child’s health is nation wealth.

4. Dr.Nirmala Kesari Endowment lecture on pediatric Nephrology by Dr.Umesh.L. (HOD of nephrology, Institute of Nephrourology, Bangalore)

5. Dr.Rama Rao Oration on “State of new born health and their case in India” by Dr.Ranjan Pejawan (NNF President).

On 19th October evening , inaugural function of the conference was presided by Dr Sri S.Shivshankarappa (Hon- Secretary BEA) and Dr.Dighant Shastri Chief guest of the occasion. Felicitation of following Senior Pediatricians of Davangere , Dr.C.R. Banapurmath, Dr.P.S. Suresh Babu, Dr.M.L. Kulkarni, Dr. Shobha Banupurmath. was done Considering their Commitment Service and dedication to the Pediatric Society. Inauguration was followed by culture Program and banquet.

A separate hall was allotted for the post graduate to present paper for free paper and award paper category, Cash price was awarded to the winner on the valedictory function. All the scientific program was well attended and appreciated with good speaker, audience interaction.

13th Annual CME & Dr. Nirmala Kesaree Oration Lecture

It was indeed pleasure and Honor that, we organized a 13th Annual CME & Dr. Nirmala Kesaree Oration Lecture at S S Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre Davanagere. on 24th June 2023 Organized by IAP Davanagere District Branch, Department of Paediatrics SSIMS & RC, Department of Peadiatrics, JJMMC, Davanagere.

We had inaugural function presided by Dr. B S Prasad, Principal, SSIMS & RC, Davangere. Followed by in the chair, Chief Guest Dr. G V Basavaraj, Guest of Honor Dr. Santosh T Soans, Dr. Arun Kumar Ajjappa, Dr. Sharan Gowda Patil, Dr. N K Kalappanavar, Senior Advisors Dr. C R Banapurmath, Dr. Suresh Babu P S, IAP District Office Bearers Dr. Gouli Chandrashekar, Dr. Veeresh Babu D V, Dr. Bhavya S O.

We had conducted a Dr. Nirmala Kesaree Oration Lecture. Orator was Dr. Santosh T Soans, session was chaired by Dr. C R Banapurmath and Dr. Suresh Babu followed by felicitator ceremony to Dr. Santosh T Soans.
